I'm considering buying a 2004 XC70 with 98k miles.
Clean no accident carfax with regular scheduled maintenance performed.
Recent work includes cabin air filter, plugs, power steering change, new tires, front/read pads.
What other items should be coming due ? Timing belt? engine mounts?

These cars (and most AWD cars) need ALL FOUR tires changed at the same time unless the other two are near new.

Don't worry about engine mounts, not that expensive.
As above, AWD is the most important check on these. You'll need to google up about the issues with collar sleeve failure and DEM corrosion (check Images on google). It has new tires so no worries but keep in mind, on these always have all 4 tires with same wear or the AWD gets damaged. Same when having a flat and using the spare donut.
