I am a bit confused. Looking for the motor mounts for a 2001 v40. found 3 of them. 2 at the bottom and 1 under the air cleaner. I have one mount to go and can't seem to figure this out. pic included. it does not look like the last one I can see which sits just to the side of the timing belt. Does not look the one in the pic. Any help would be appreciated. Can't find an pics on line to actually see the mount location except via diagrams.
thanks

I believe this goes over the engine (on driver's side)...I'll see if I can't find you a diagram.

Maybe this will help! It was not in the same place as I had imagined and it looks like it breaches over the the engine from a bracket. Good luck!!

I am still confused. I looked at video. this is the mount I see on the passenger side just next to the time belt cover area. I have nothing coming off back of motor from firewall.

I took a look at my '01 S40.
The mount it your first post does not look like my right side mount either.
The mount in your second post does look like my right side mount. Though the photo shows the bottom side of the mount.
Does that make sense? Maybe I'm confused. I'm not sure what your question is.

I am guessing that Volvo made a change to the mount. new mount and bracket. the original mounting bracket is still there but not being used. thanks for the help.

Long time lurker, first time poster with the exact same problem
I am leaning towards volvoinneeds conclusion that the mount was changed in production, as it seems to occupy the same space as the video posted by MadeInJapan.
HOWEVER:
In my research all the parts suppliers list the mount posted in the OP as an upper right hand mount, and the second mount picture listed as a lower right hand mount; even IPD sells both for each model/year between 2001-2004.5 as well, with only the caveat that the "lower right hand mount" had an updated bracket halfway through the 2001 model year that will need to be replaced/modified.
There is no mention of an updated mount in the IPD part listing compatibility issues, and all the diagrams for 2001-2004 models show both mounts as pictured in my attachment.
However I'm at a loss when it comes to finding the one supposedly installed on the vehicle.
Is it a one or the other situation, or am i not looking hard enough?

Rolled up my sleeves and took the plunge installing the earlier style (#1 in diagram) mount today,
two short trips later, seems to have worked! No more excessive clunking when turning, idle vibrations reduced.
Old mount was torn 2/3 of the way around, mostly towards the front of the vehicle.
I needed new hardware to use the "old" mount holes in the bracket, so took a hardware store trip before my engine bay excursion;
ended up using two washers, an 8.8 rated M12x1.75 bolt 110mm long and an appropriate nut for a cost of about $7, plus the $30 mount for a total of $37.
Way better than $200 for mount #30, and $100 for the updated bracket!
100mm bolt would probably work better since there was not a lot of space, but there was about 10mm of thread sticking out so it would be a close tolerance.
Enough that i'd use blue threadlocker.
Removal was a bit rough since the p/s reservoir and hoses are directly behind and above the large mount & bracket assembly however applied wiggling was successful;
install went better since "old" mount is smaller, but was a bit of a tight fit in the bracket.
Ended up using two jacks since lining up the single fender bracket hole was a chore until i did, but my work area isn't level.
Hope this helps someone in the future, since this is a serious money saver
