98 v70 AWD trasnmission fluid capacity
In reading my owners manual it says this transmission holds 2 gallons of fluid is that correct? On a side, a note has anyone tried gear oil? the reason I ask I had 2002 Isuzu automatic that called for automatic transmission fluid I often had issues with hesitation and slipping and it seemed to loose or lose at lot, i switched to a synthetic gear oil and never had another issue.

Put gear oil in it and it will likely fail within days. I would trust the owners manual, the system may have a little more due to the torque converter.

3-2/3 to 3/4 quarts... NOT including the torque converter.
If you do a single drain and fill it takes a little less than 4 quarts, but a drain and fill does not drain out the converter

You don't fill an automatic transmission by volume the way you do the engine oil.
Read the manual, duplicate the temperature and conditions cited, then fill as noted. The conditions have to be right to make sure the oil is circulating in the torque converter when you measure the pan oil level.
If you fill it cold to the dipstick mark, the transmission will work poorly.
