I just bought a 99 V70 AWD from a guy who said he was able to drive it home just fine without any shifting issues. Now it will not drive and when in neutral it will not roll. I replaced a locked up caliper but I'm still having the same issue. When I put it in drive it will lurch forward only about a foot at a time. Reverse does not work at all but I do hear the RPMs drop whenever I shift into gear. I have an ABS light on the dash but when I scan it with my Bluetooth ODB device it's not coming up with any codes. I disconnected the battery for about a half an hour but the code remains.I also gave the front drivers side axle a jiggle and it seems to be secure.
Thanks in advance!

Well that sucks!
Welcome to MVS. If I may suggest I would raise all 4 corners of the car off the ground so you can see what has locked up. Try putting the car in neutral and turn each wheel to see what turns and what doesn't. There are a few issues that could be affecting the car and it is a case of working through each part of the driveline to see what works.
Issues that the vehicle could have (is it auto or manual?). I am going to assume 4 speed auto for now:
1) Angle gear may have seized. This attaches to the inner side of the transmission and the RH front axle passes through it. It tranfers drive to the rear wheels. Basically a front differential.
2) Rear diff may have seized, but I would expect the car to still drag itself along.
3) Have you checked the parking brakes? The shoes can detach from the backing and lock up the rear brakes.
4) The parking brake cable may have seized jamming the rear wheels on one or both sides.
5) The trans may have locked up. I never believe anything a previous owner claims as my experience on the last 4 Volvos I have owned is all the
PO's lied big time on the 'known issues' which the vehicles clearly had!
6) Check both front axles actually turn with the car in neutral and wheels off the ground. If the front axles are ok, the next thing to do is remove the prop-shaft at the front from the angle gear and see if the rear wheel then turn freely.
Neil.

Thanks for the feedback!
I believe the previous owner about the transmission shifting on his way home seeing that he had just bought it for 2,200 and sold it to me for 500 insisting that it needed a new transmission.
I remove the parking brake pads just to eliminate that as a potential issue. I'm also getting code 1550 speed sensor.
I tried disconnecting the driveshaft but I stripped the last bolt so I'll have to mess around with that a little bit.
It definitely feels like something in the Driveline the way that it kind of rocks back and forth but just a little bit.
Once I gather up a little bit more motivation I'll get back to work on the drive shaft and I'll let you guys know what happens. Nothing like working under the car on a rocky driveway in the rain...

I have been able to remove any rounded off prop-shaft bolts in the past with the use of a good quality pair of vice grips. Yes you have to lock and un-lock them a few times, but once it is loose a good set of channel locks can move it the rest of the way.

I disconnected the driveshaft while keeping all four wheels off the ground. And when I put it in Drive the tires will not spin until I turn winter mode on and then the front wheels seem to turn like they should. Reverse does not work with winter mode on or off.
I do still have the check engine, abs, and the traction control errors Illuminating. No luck clearing them with my torque app.
Error P1550 is the only code my app will bring up.
Thanks again.
