When you did the manual swap did you make a YouTube video for it with step by step instructions? Also when you removed the automatic shifter is the small light bulb socket still there and able to be routed to other areas in the car? Because my friend who has an extra exhaust manifold from a non turbo V70 wants to find a way to custom integrate OEM Volvo electric lights into his center console by removing the lower portion of the felt under armrest tray, and fabricate a semi translucent base in which would have a bracket to hold the old shift gear selector light bracket so the whole base of the console will glow a pale white when open for ease of finding pens, coins or whatever else may be kept there. Other options include a light for the map tray that operates in tandem with the glove box light, i.e. Glove box open and glove box light on; map pocket light also goes on. Not sure if the wire leads are long enough from the trans bracket to do a no-Solder rerouting and reutilization of the socket. We're talking major Volvo surgery here guys come on!

I did make a few videos, have not formatted a good copy yet.
Yes it is still there. However, there is already a light in the rear of the center console. Not sure if there is one in the armrest or not. can't imagine that would be worth anything. I recently wired for an additional outlet in the rear, also for 2 USB plugs in the rear (in place of the rear heated seat switch block outs). I also wired for 2 USB outlets at the transmission performance switch.
Still trying to figure out what an extra exhaust manifold has anything to add to this conversation. lol

Something similar happened to my Mercedes, in which an eBay seller sold me a shift boot for a W123 Mercedes that was not for a W123 Mercedes, and I had broken the clip for the factory shifter.
I riveted in two strips of aluminum to hold the old clip in place from underneath (see picture below). It did the job, and the rivets don't look too bad on the tattered old wooden console trim, but it might not be such a charmingly quaint look on a newer car like a Volvo. Maybe one could do a better job disguising the rivet heads with some sort of trim piece, paint, or tape.

Awesome! I didn't know there was a light in the rear center console?? Is this in 850s only or in S&v models as well? As far as the armrest thing the idea was to install a translucent panel in the bottom (after removing the current bottom) and wiring the light up underneath so that when the armrest is open a light shines up out of it, which would enable night time viewing of the contents of the armrest. I have never heard of this before but I have to admit that if you are at a toll booth and looking for money or something that the illumination built in below the tray would be helpful. As far as the exhaust manifold, sorry you just missed it. The flex pipe was broken anyway. Was going to try an alternate repair method but the new one is installed and my storage area is overfilling. It was a non-turbo model.rspi wrote: ↑24 May 2017, 15:39 I did make a few videos, have not formatted a good copy yet.

I think a light in the lid would be much better and just as easy to install.
