I'll post some pics but I'm working on a light oil seep on my 1999.
It looks like it comes from the joint on the block , the oil. Pan, the oil cooler ( biscuit type) based on the upper cut off, but this one does have me stumped a bit.

I wondered about that. Could that tube spray oil up though? There is some oil above that area, but not that much.
I wonder where the oil level is on the full sump. If I am over filling slightly , could that be causing the seep?
I idled the car for 20 minutes on Ramps, engine tipped back slightly, and didn't get a single drop.
Consumption is something like 1 liter per 1500-2000 miles

Updated. I ran a long Boston trip with the dipstick at star 2 out of 5. This is the new dipstick which reads lower than stock
Not a drop used nor leaked. Looks like this was just overfilling the crankcase.

Not to resurrect an old post - but has this situation/solution stayed the same? I also notice that my dipstick hasn't really went down since it hit about that position. I wonder if the length of the new dipstick tube is different than the old one. I too haven't replaced it yet.

I'm not sure. I get a small spot every once in awhile but not consistently.

I had a similar issue with our old 98 V70 XC. The PO had swapped the dip-stick but not the matching tube, so it always read low. I even measured the amount of oil into the engine after an oil change and it was always low, so just re-marked the dipstick.

Which makes me think that Volvo may have found they had these a bit higher level in the sump/pan than they wanted. Can't imagine they'd design a new tube without a darn good reason...

If I had taken this advice two years ago, my driveway would be a lot cleaner.
I did the turbo line job about two years after getting this advice.
Roling underneath today after a 30 minute run it looks dry. Tough highway run to definitely test next week

Well after a single 1000 mile hot run, this definitely cleaned this up.
That turbo oil return line can leak in funny ways and send oil everywhere - duh - probably by hitting the spinning driveshaft.
I cleaned with Citrus, ran 1000 miles, and here is the after pictures
+1000 points to tryingbe POST CRED for suggesting this 2 years ago.
