I am a long time Volvo owner. Have owned a 240, two 940 wagons (one of them still running strong) and a '98 S70 (since new and still own it, but it's going to become my son's first car, I think). I am now considering buying another Volvo. I decided that it absolutely has to be a wagon. I've been avoiding turbos and AWD cars like the plauge (for my own reasons) and want to keep it that way. I have noticed an '07 V50 on local Craigslist and it appears to be non T5. Does this mean that it is normally aspirated engine? From my research in '07 there were three trims: V50, V50 T5 and V50 T5 AWD. The V50 is supposed to be a 165hp engine, which sounds like N/A to me (as is my '98 S70). I just want to make sure that's the case. Also really would appreciate owner experience of this car. Is it a good year/model for Volvo? I know certain years for certain models were disastrous (like early AWD cars). I am a DIY type of person and tend to service and maintain my vehicles myself. Is this car conducive to this? Is the electronic stuff really locked up (as in VADIS) making it difficult or impossible to do certain things?
I really appreciate the help.

I don't know the answer to your first question, but I do believe there is a 2.4i that is a low pressure turbo. Not sure if it was sold as a '07 model. That said, my S40 is an '07 AWD T5 manual...I think this is an awesome year for this car! It's the same car you're looking at in the sedan version.

2.4i means it's a normally aspirated 5 cyl transverse engine.
Since I've gotten my 2006 2.4i, I've done almost all the work. I enjoy seeing the solutions that Volvo (and FoMoCo) have come up with, and it is the ONLY thing that makes a Volvo affordable for me. The high cost of dealer maintenance serves to depress resale prices, so folks like me can buy in.
It is, like other modern cars, heavily electronic. You will want to get a (Chinese clone) DiCE/ VIDA scanner setup. It allows a DIY to have full access to the actual Volvo tech manual as well as about 50% of the possible electronic adjustments. The other 50% needs to be through "reprogramming," which is best done through a dealer.
