1995 850 clutch slave cylinder

Post by correllkp »

Ok, have a 1995 850 that hasn't been used for eight years...been in a garage all that time and has 85k on the odometer. Just going through and changing the obvious (fluids, belts, etc). However, there was a leak in the line between the clutch master cylinder and slave master cylinder so decided to change the whole hydraulic system, master, slave, and line in between. But, cannot get slave cylinder out of engine sleeve. Removed the circlip and hosed the junction between the slave cylinder and the sleeve as much as could with pb blaster and wd 40 when that didn't work (used red nozzle to direct spray between seam of cylinder and sleeve but not really sure how much is really penetrating). Been using a hammer and large screwdriver trying to bang the cylinder out of the sleeve....absolutely no movement. Tried heating the sleeve and then banging again no movement. It is like it is welded to the sleeve or there is something else holding the cylinder in the sleeve. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Did you loosen the brake booster? I think I recall rspi's video where he has to loosen the brake booster in order to get the clearance necessary to remove the clutch master cylinder.

Thanks for the replies. Finally got the slave cylinder out through a combination of heat, pb blaster, and a big chisel and hammer (angled the chisel to bite into the slave cylinder).
