Last one was radiator that let go 100 meters from house after a three state trip. sWMBO caught it before overheat.

Ah, Volvos. If it's not one thing leaking, it's another 
We put a new radiator in the Liberty about a year ago after discovering a small hairline crack had slowly leaked out about a gallon of coolant (dad's only complaint was "there's no heat unless the engine's turning 2k"). After that, it still continued to use coolant at a rather alarming rate. Eventually discovered that while we replaced the water pump and both rad hoses at the same time, I hadn't tightened the lower hose enough and it was leaking when hot onto the bar below it, and then flying back under the car at speed, so nothing ever dripped on the driveway.

Maybe that hose was rebelling against your double-clamp style?

I agree, don't use two clamps and switch out those basic clamps for some Swedish ABA clamps
