I'm attempting to replace the rear brakes and rotors on our 2014 XC90. In all of the youtube videos I've watched the rotor basically pops off after you remove the caliper and caliper bracket. Often you need to hit it a few times with a hammer to free up the rotor. The videos were mainly of older XC90s.
My rotor is loose but won't come off. Another post here says to release the parking brake at the center console by turning the parking brake adjuster counter clockwise.
On my 2014 the parking brake is a pedal on the left side below the dash. I don't see any visible adjuster screw. I'm wondering if there are instructions for my newer XC90.
Is this the correct course of action? The parking brake is not on (the wheel rotated after jacking but before I took it off) but I'm assuming rust or something is keeping it from coming off. The other option is to apply more force (but I don't want to damage anything).
Any help is appreciated.

I see the parking brake adjustment under driver's side of center console. Very limited space. One set of instructions I found said to twist counterclockwise and remove clip, then twist clockwise to loosen cable, then when done brake job twist counter clockwise and install clip.
Is this correct? Adjuster looks like it's supposed to be turnable by hand. I can't budge it. When I use needle nose the entire cable twists.
I need some help on the correct tools and steps to release the parking brake so as not to do damage to the parking brake cables.
Any help is appreciated.

Removing the retaining pin first seemed to work. The adjuster was very difficult to turn initially and turned easily once I got it going.
Even with the parking brake cable loose the rotor did not want to come off though it seemed closer to coming off. Looks like there are some local adjustments inside the area where the brake is. I did not touch this.
After enough wiggling, spinning, and PB blaster I finally got the rotor off. Neither one came off like in the movies. :^(
This will be much easier the second time.

Glad you got it! I find as long as the wheel spins freely, the parking brake isn't an issue. You didn't say if it was not budging at all, or if it moved a bit and then got stuck. Either way, I have ended up hitting it with a hammer to dislodge it. Sometimes using the two=hammer method on the "top of the hat" part of the rotor, and sometimes just whacking from behind.
I still need to figure out a good way of adjusting the parking brake. The books all show this massive tool that I don't have, so I've shied away from it. One of these days I'll give it a go.
