SRS/DIM Codes - Yet no actual fault

Post by Botbasher »

Volvo... The gift that keeps on giving!!

Morning All! Got an interesting one that I am hoping is something really stupid!

With the car off, I pulled the cluster to replace a bunch of bad bulbs. I disconnected the cluster. Replaced the needed bulbs. Reinstalled the cluster. Turned on the car and "SRS-Airbag Service URGENT" pops up in the display and the Yellow ! is on? Hmmmm I thought if you did it with the car off it wouldn't do that, but whatever... Volvos!! :?

So I grab the laptop and cable. Reset the errors. Gone. Follow the prompts to restart the car and Poof.... errors reappears.

Listing of errors
Listing of errors
OK, now I am pissed. Quick search says that it's failures at the SRS Lamp, Red, Orange and Yellow LED are bad. Hmmmm Didn't I just see all those? So I ran a cluster test...

Red and Yellow make orange + SRS All On!
Red and Yellow make orange + SRS All On!
Definitely RED!!!
Definitely RED!!!
Definitely Yellow!!!
Definitely Yellow!!!

OK, I'm stumped and that doesn't happen too often. So a bit more digging says Air Bag connectors can cause this. Not buying, but I check the under seat ones. Both OK. I did nothing besides pull the DIM to change the bulbs.

There was one reference to similar set of errors here on MVS and no resolution was ever posted. I'm not digging into the dash and sides without a good reason to, so here I am!!

Any error gurus out there got a good place to start looking for the solution to this? DIM appears to be working perfectly other than a missing segment in the text display. All lights, LEDs and gauges function perfectly.

Thoughts??

Battery needs to be disconnected, not just key off, when fussing with SRS. I believe DIM talks to SRS so you have a sticky fault that is a dealer clear.

Well, I'm sure the dealer will start with a DIM replacement given what I've read about SRS-00D4, so I may be living with the yellow Triangle of Despair for a while!!!

This seems to be an uncommon error as there is very little info on it.

Cheers!

Well, I spent last night checking SRS components. I pulled the Steering Wheel Airbag and checked all related connectors. No dice.

I pulled and cleaned the contacts on the Airbag Control Module. No change.

Pulled the seat connectors. Ran then in and out a couple of times. Nada!!

Is there any way to tell exactly what airbags it can see or not see or are they all in one big loop? Or is that simply not available to non-Volvo folks?

The error changes too. Sometimes it's DIM-0003 & DIM-0006... Sometimes DIM-0005 shows up. But the constant is SRS-00D4, which I presume is set by the DIM codes regardless of which ones show.

It goes away till I restart the car, so I don't think it's an actual SRS failure now... it's in the DIM.

I have a email into XeMODeX and another eBay service about repairing it. Funny thing about the eBay one. They charge $99 for a lifetime repair... if there is no issue they charge a bench fee for diagnosis of $125!!! WTF!! I have a text segment out (I already changed the display so it's in the board) so I'm thinking I'll send it in for that and get them to "fix" it, then it's all on them if that fixes it or not!! Least I'll know if it's in the DIM or somewhere else!

I'm not looking to cheat them, but they made a silly rule... I'll play their game!!

Greetings!

botbasher,

Any luck with this issue? I seem to have the exact problem and like you mentioned, not too much documentation out there too find a solution yet plenty of possibilities as to the source of the problem.

I recently got a DiCE tool with VIDA 2014d, hoping that would help clear this " ! " light on the DIM but still get error codes about faulty warning lights. I am now contemplating pulling the DIM to look at solder joints and reflux (whatever that means).

Anyways, I am a recent purchaser of a 2002 s60 2.4t with 95k miles and no idea what the PO may or may not have done so along with normal maintenance, I am trying my best to get this thing to stage 0. If you made any progress on clearing these codes please advise.

Cheers,
Frankie

Read the above carefully. I believe the procedure is battery disconnect plus waiting another 15 minutes for modules to stop talking to each other

Literally in the same exact spot, except last time I replaced the gauge cluster I was able to clear it with a diaxag tool. Doesn't work this time around even though just as you tested all is good for lights.

edit: dealer wants $55 to clear even though it's literally near-free since the actual clearing costs nothing and they're the biggest in the area so they've easily made their money back on the yearly VIDA subscription by now.

I have the exact same DIM-0003 Service Airbag Urgent light on. Tried the battery trick - no luck. Have to take to dealer.

VIDA will turn the SRS light off.
