Wheel fitment

Post by RichieS40 »

Hi,

Now I've successfully cleared my engine fault codes and the car is running sweetly, I can justify giving her a bit of a makeover.

A friend with a Bodyshop can spruce up a couple of badly touched up chips and a scraped bumper but I'm reluctant to have the original wheels refurbed when the laquer has blown a bit, there are quite heavy curb marks on a couple and some engrained brake dust in the creases/corners.

It would probably cost £60-100 per wheel and there are more cost effective options:-

A) keep the car looking stock by getting a set of Zaurak 17" off eBay
B) go with a nice aftermarket ' not too blingy' wheel - my current favourites are anthracite Momo Quantum.

I know the originals are 17" 5*108, can anybody help me with width and offset info assuming I'm not changing tyre size from I think 205/50(?)

Thanks in advance
Rich

I have aftermarket OZ wheels on my car (bought it that way)...they are 40mm offset and the car is lowered 30mm...that's over an inch...they rubbed on the back wheels some until I had the rear fender wells modified...but I think that depends on the tire used...mine are 18's. With 17's I don't think you'll have much issue even up to 45mm offset. More of a concern will be the center bore... Our cars are 63.4mm diameter...if you go smaller, you'll have to get a machine shop to bore it out further; if it's larger, you might need to consider using hubcentric rings. To be honest, Tirerack has some good options and at least it's a place to go look to get some ideas. Also, this site could be of help to you: https://www.wheel-size.com/size/volvo/s40/2007/

Oh, I almost forgot...width for OEM is 7.5...if you go 8 (there are options for that), you might be pushing it depending on what tire/wheel setup you're using.
