I worked as the night dispatcher at a trucking company many many moons ago...
One of our OTR/FTL drivers gets his diesel rebuilt, is a quart and a half low after about a week of operation, pumps used oil in and drops a valve into the combustion chamber about 75 miles later. I can't say the oil caused it, but I do know the outcome was more expensive than the initial overhaul as they refused to warranty it as a result.

Since we don't have a warranty involved... I'd add that VW's oil to my crankcase and not think twice. Let me know how difficult the oil cooler seal/o-ring replacement ends up when you fix it. I think the "older" VR6 engines were the ones really having issues with sludge to the point the dealers were dropping the pan and valve cover while cleaning them out.

At my local store its listed as $59 for a 5qrt. Thats $5 a month for oil, would that be cheap enough for ya?

My goal is the oil company pays me $5 bucks a month to use their oil. So, yeah, looks good....

Roy, I flipped through the oil pump change in the 1.8 turbo VW earlier this year or maybe in 2016? Other than needing a long 6mm hex head for three of the pan bolts it was about 4/10 degree of difficulty

The lifespan for even synth oil is *1 year*. I wouldn't. Viscosity, etc. breaks down.

Also, how did you get a VW turbo that *doesn't* burn oil?

Abscate once bought me an expensive lunch so I can attest to the fact he is really not a cheapskate at all!

He did however, ask the waitress for his share of the oil from the French frier (in a to-go cup). He told her he paid for it in part by paying for the fries. He uses the fryer oil to lube car door hinges.

Perhaps the word is frugal versus cheap?
