'04 V70 contact reel died

'04 V70 contact reel died

So, I just had the steering rack replaced, and now the contact reel died. Is there any way the shop could have caused the damage to the contact reel, or am I just unlucky?

VERY easily
Someone replaced a tranny many years ago for me and loosened the rack
Upon assembly they crushed it and it cost them Bout $400 for the dealer to fix their mistakes!

I can check my parts stash on Friday as I did harvest the complete steering wheel assembly from my parts car

That would be great. Hopefully I'll get a chance to talk to the shop tomorrow and see what they're going to do about this.
