Volvo 850 transmission fluid leak

Post by correllkp »

Have a 1995 850. Hasn't been used in 8 years. Drained the gas, put in new timing belt, slave and master clutch cylinders, the line that runs between the two cylinders and the serpentine belt. Removed what looked like 8 years of mouse or chipmunk nesting in the air filter box. Started, runs pretty smooth. Had a bit of a problem getting into gear when the car was on (it's a manual) but then read where someone started it in gear and that seemed to align everything. In any case that is all an aside. After starting car took for a quick spin around the block. Noticed a transmission fluid leak when I pulled back into the garage. I think the leak is from the small, very rusted pipe shown in the picture. The pipes in the picture look like they are coming from the gear box. The picture is from underneath the car, driver's side, looking forward. Can anyone help identify what the pipe or pipes are called so I can order new ones? Thanks.

Yes, those are the piping for your steering rack.
Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)

Thanks for the replies noting that these are power steering pipes I jacked the way up and crawled underneath to figure out where the pipes go to. The smaller pipes go to the rack and pinion. The larger pipes go to the power steering pump.

Now, does anyone know where I can order the pipes from? I can see them in the rack diagrams but not called out as separate parts.
