Door Panel Vinyl

The vinyl covering on the upper portion of my rear door panel...around the door latch area....has lifted free in both corners. Is there any way to stretch it back and re-attach it, or do you just replace the panel?

NOPE.
This is a 98 problem. Volvo used "environmental" glue and it dried out. The vinyl used was also bad.
It has shrunk amd there is not way to reuse it.
Volvo used to offer a cheap replacement kit, no more.
You will have to have an upholstory shop redo all of them and in a cloth, as most vinyls are too thick to stay glued.
I did a car in a contrasting color, I thought it looked rather good
Or.... you can just leave it alone

It's out of sight in the back seat so I'll just leave it alone. I suppose I could always look for a good one at a wrecker.

I'm having the same issue with all 4 doors on my 99 S70. I'm not sure if the covering is Vinyl or Leather, and if it is leather, can it be stretched, or do you have to do as described earlier with the vinyl?

You're having a good week.
98s have this problem. Volvo used environmental glue, guess what, it didn't hold, also the vinly shrank.
Volvo used to have a cheap repair kit but when they all went out of warranty they're not available anymore.
Not a whole lot of choices here, the original vinyl has shrunk and is useless.
If you want to spend the money, have an upholstorer redo all the door panles.
You cannot buy perfectly matching Volvo vinyl, but I've done a couple in contrasting cloth and berber, they turned out very well and gave the interior some "life"
I had a Nautic Blue 98 with tan leather, we tried some dark blue cloth material to closely color match the paint and it looked terrific

Yes, it's been a wonderful week! Our car has many issues!!!! None that our I.M. has helped with for the money we've shelled out! Which is why, I'm so thankful I found this site, it helped us out tremendously this past week!!!

I several other questions, but I'll wait another day or two so I can get some pictures that might help locate the "problem".

Usually not a problem with 99s but I've seen a few.....
It's vinyl and CANNOT be stretched, the stuff is hard as a rock

I had an idea, don't know if it will work though. What if you used a heat gun to "stretch" the vinyl, would that not make it more pliable to re-glue?

Nope, been there, done that.
Trust me, this stuff has shrunk and is as hard as a rock

oh well, so much for my brainiac ideas!!!

Well, this cosmetic issue will have to wait, it's not that big a deal. Need to get all the other "mechanical" issues dealt with first.

B.T.W. - didn't know if anyone else out there knew this, but it IS possible to fit 3 car seats (Infant, toddler & a Booster seat) in the back seat of an S70!!!!

Of course, I have no room for anyone else to ride!!! Ahhh, the joys of parenthood!!!
