1998 v 70 awd p0117/p0116
i have had both of these check engine codes pop up in the last few days. i replaced the etc on the thermostat twice now with a slightly used sensor i knew was in working condition and a brand new sensor. I am still getting the engine codes so what else could i do to fix this

Did you use OE parts? These are usually pretty reliable codes...
I have had new KAE temp sensor in our n/a for two years and it hasn't given me a problem, but I also flushed system and replaced thermostat with a new Wahler one the time of install. Make sure you clean the electrical connector with electrical parts cleaner.
If I recall correctly: I installed pieces, cleared codes, and then had to "lawnmower" start her up. Car wouldn't start otherwise.
