97 850 replaced pcv and started motor

Post by Jaybar »

And the car throttles up to 4k on the tack and the up arrow came on. This wasn't happening before kinda stumped. When I reset with the ignition it will idle around 900 for about 30 seconds the up arrow comes on and motor climbs to 1100 rpm :x

Most likely a vacuum leak somewhere. My brother did a PCV job and it idled horribly afterward. We couldn't figure it out and his shop smoked it. Somehow he'd warped the mating surface on his intake manifold. Remedy was two gaskets and orange RTV. You might want to take off that brake booster line, smoke a cigarette, and get some smoke in there to see if you need to pull that manifold off again. Is this an N/A or a Turbo?

Starter is probably not this. As the starter only engages the flywheel when cranking and then just retracts, like a turtle into his shell, awaiting the next crank.

Sounds exactly like you didn't plug the throttle position sensor back in.

if the car is now running well, well done on completing this first challenge of old Volvo ownership! We have all done the senior moment (some us more than others!), and forgotten to re-fit a connector or 2. Now go and enjoy!
