Steering column replacement

Pulled the steering column out of a '95 today. Took about an hour. Send me a PM if you want it.
'95 855 T-5R M, Panther - 22/28 mpg, 546,000 miles

Okay, so six months later, I finally got time to open up the casing and take some pictures. Now I see what the guy meant by "drilled out" and "needs new steering column".

The guy says that the part will be about $150, and about $500-600 for labor. I say screw that, found the upper steering column on ebay for $50 (http://www.ebay.com/itm/95-96-97-Volvo- ... CI&vxp=mtr), will install it myself. However, is there anything I should know before I do that? Obviously, disconnect the power, but apart from that?

look for the advisements about the electrical connections "clockspring", make sure it is locked out properly.
edit-P.S. find a mechanic with more Volvo knowledge, or better yet, become that guy... this is the place to learn it.

Current Volvos:
1998 V70 T5, 112k sat 5 years, still in mechanical coma (finally at the top of the pile )
2004 XC90 T6 AWD: 186k, 60 on transaxle ( traded in )
1998 POS70 N/A: DD/training aid, 236k but really about 240k, I think...ABS module( passed on to son who sold it)
