1998 Volvo V70 Base AC Running But No Cold Air Coming Out

Post by SantiagoV70 »

Dear Volvo Enthusiast and members,

I have a 1998 Volvo V70 that I purchased about six months or more ago and when I purchased it the A/C was blowing cold air.
A Few Months after of having the vehicle the A/C stopped working. To be more detailed the fan was blowing when I turn it on but no cold air was coming out. When took it to a mechanic he recharged it with freon tested linesthey were cold checked for a leak no leak and saw that compressor wasnt turning on which lead to electrical problem with A/C Relay in fuse box which we took care of and got compressor to start working so no problem mechanical with compressor. Still no cold air would come out, then after speaking with someone they stated that my blend door motor that opens a/c would be bad so replaced that and Still!! no cold air coming out can someone please help me out has anybody run into similar issues? I appreciate the help. :( :( :(

Here is the inverted tree of AC death - most common causes of trouble on P2(2002-2008) and P80 (1994-1998) Volvos...and the bastards (1999-2001)

Most to least occurring

AC compressor clutch gap - AC works for 5-15 minutes, then blows warm. Search for bread clip fix or zip tie fix

Electrical connections on low pressure valve and thermal overload on compressor.

Evaporator hole (P80 and bastards) - inspect evaporator for dark greasy matter/hair by either removing fan and looking in or borescope down through cabin filter area. - Its a 10 hour job to remove dash to replace.

Junk in compressor - gets noisy and may even seize up. If you have been selling junk bonds to orphans the belt can chisel its way into the timing belt and wipe out your valves and head too. God hates grifters.

Rusted out Receiver Drier - easy to inspect, but a charlie foxtrot to break big rusted fasteners and replace

System contamination - if you let the charge get low and keep topping off, water gets in and corrodes a large number of components. If it needs a can more than once every three years, stop putting them in and fix it right by finding the leak.
