'98 Volvo s70 battery cable corrosion.

Post by dcmatos »

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I have a bit of an issue. I went to replace my battery and a portion of my positive cable broke off. I am a novice when it comes to my Volvo so I would appreciate any advice on what I should do to replace it. I have not connected the battery yet in fear of something else becoming damaged. She's an old gal but she's survived 300,000 miles and counting.

One of the best solutions I've seen here on MVS is the universal marine terminal that bob850 shared here:

Simplest fix is to Dremel or pry off the connector, crimp, three large ring connectors onto each wire separately, then reattach to the same point on the terminal. Some heat shrink to,both insulate and strain relief those connections would be a pro touch.

For a temp quick fix you can drive a screw through the connector and into the edge of the battery post. Works for days.

Is it possible to drive without the B+ cable connected? I have a replacement cable but am unable to remove the original. If possible I'd rather take it in than risk damaging it

^^^I almost got a hernia laughing at the last two comments.^^^

To the OP: Dont do it man. The cheapest longterm fix is going to be those large ring connectors. They are cheaper than dirt at harbor freight.
