So a coworker bought a 244 from a relative after the vehicle broke down on a trip.
Quote: "There was a loud pop, and the vehicle would no longer start after coasting to a stop."
The engine cranks. He has replaced spark plugs, wires, rotor cap and all the fuses. He has not replaced the ignition control module.
From my walk around of the vehicle, it has a black spray paint paint job. *facepalm*. It was originally blue? The inside trunk floor pan is rusted severely and will need a lot of work to repair. Interior trim is cracked, broken or missing. The headliner is a white textured solid plastic form? (Was that original?)
The wheels are seventeens from another Volvo. There are spacers in place all around. Interior seats are good, may have been reupholstered at some point. The rear passenger quarter panel is dented and scraped.
If I bought it, I would pull engine and tranny, and have the body fixed professionally. I would probably have it painted in the Volvo Tan, but who knows.
My question is, considering the body damage and rust, the fact it does not run, the spray paint paint job, the 17's and spacers...., what would you pay for this car? What would be a fair price. Sorry I don't have pictures, but, picture a poorly treated Volvo in your head.
I have an opportunity to buy a 86 244
Update, I pulled the trigger. I paid $700. That is less than what he paid plus the parts he already bought. I was going to offer more actually, because I am a nice guy.
I think I will be putting up a page dedicated to "Adelie" and documenting my work.
