Transmission Broke, 2005 S40 6 Speed

Hi Everyone,
I have a 2005 S40 2.5T 6 speed. Today while on a hill I let the clutch out hard. Heard a loud pop and now it doesn't move. I can hear noise when in gear or neutral. Don't think I hear it while clutch is pushed in. I haven't been able to look at it closely. CV axles don't look bad from what I can see. Any thoughts on what might have happened?

I got under the car to look at the CV axles. They look solid. With both wheels off the ground, I spin one wheel and the other tries to move in the opposite direction but slips. When I start the car, with the clutch pushed in, there is no noise. When I let the clutch out, either in gear or neutral, There is a loud rattle coming from the trans. I suspect I broke a gear or something.
Does anyone know how difficult it is to remove this tranny?

That certainly doesn't sound good. It's quite a lot of work - the axles have to come off and the engine with tranny pretty much has to be dropped out from under the car to unbolt it. I'm thinking it's the clutch that gave out.... your tranny might be okay. As I don't know much about the issue you're describing, I'm hoping others with more knowledge will chime in.

Turns out the Dual mass flywheel went out.

So, curious- what kind of cost is that to replace?
