V70 1998 - New PNP Switch does not fix the problem

Post by davidvinograd »

People,

Car is a V70 1998 with312K miles. Had been running fine (a summer Maine island car) since purchased in 2013. Died at home. We pulled and cleaned the PNP switch and got it started. Ran fine for a week and died again. We checked the alignment using the rear brake lights but no joy. So we ordered a new switch and installed and aligned it. Still no joy.

Any suggestions before we junk the car? It would be a shame as everything else works and there is no rust.

Thanks

Dave

What the problem, David? Are you having transmission trouble or a no-start?

Car is no start. Diag tester shows P0705. Is there any way to by pass this safety check. Island cars do not have to pass any inspection.

Happen to test the old one and verify definitively that it is bad? Could be something within the wiring harness - a bad ground, a backed out pin, a small spot of corrosion, etc.
Wisdom requires knowledge as a prerequisite, but knowledge can be developed due to a lack of wisdom.
In order to learn how to fix something, you must first learn how to break it.

No, did not test the old switch. The new one came with a short cable - when we pulled the old one we detached it at the unit. So I will assume the supplied cable is good? How far back up the cable run do we go? Will pursue tomorrow in the light of day.
