That should work well - 1 atm of pressure is about 1/2 the typical low side so you can't hurt anything.

Run your compressor full a couple of times, then dump water to try to minimize the water put in. Vacuuming for a couple hours will clean it out fine.

Pete - if you can take the car off line for a couple weekends the evap isnt bad. A couple hours a day for two weekends and the car is driveable again - even if you arent completely finished.

Got a deal on a Spectroline Titan TLK-100 Leak Detection Kit on ebay, looks like it was never used:

Seems that the bulb in the large lamp is dead, they are only rated for 50 hrs.
Ad claimed that the bulbs were good.
The smaller one works since I replaced the CR2 Lithium batteries.

The spray "solution" is to wash off the UV dye, no dye in the kit.

I mainly wanted a lamp and glasses which I got, but annoyed about the large lamp.

I found this kit while searching for dye on ebay, should have bought this for about $16:
Seller says they will pay return shipping on the other which I think I'll do.

I met abscate (Steve) yesterday since he offered a good used dryer and
some hoses. Thanks Steve!

My pleasure Pete, thanks for saving me the dip down off I84

Took me two hours to get back to Amherst but the route 8 and route 57 drive in MASS was gorgeous , and I missed all the traffic in Hartford.

Thanks for coffee and Black Forest cake!

When/if you are up to tackling that evap, let's plan an evening and get it done. A long evening. The strip down is the hard part, putting back together is easy

Really thank you for the parts!
No reason for you to drive so far out of your way, worked out really well,
timing and all.
If I do the evap it will be next Spring before it gets too hot, we will see.
The kids will have two cars, one with working A/C so they might not need it.
Thanks again.

Finally looked under the hood with UV light and glasses.
There were half inch circles of glow on the bottom of the dryer where it is rusted.
There was speckle all over the compressor and alternator.
half inch circle right near the low side port - drip from removing the hose?
There was a small amount near the pressure sensor.

AND - there was glow along the seam of the radiator - I have mentioned that
we loose about an inch per year in the recovery tank.

Tips?

That stuff is insidious , so a drop of spray will light up under UV

Get those glasses and look at the evaporator core. I would pull the heater blower and get an inspection mirror onto that. No point in patching the system up 7/8...make sure that evap is good to go

What would be needed at the pressure sensor, is there an o-ring?

Are you saying that the speckle was just blown there or something or does it
indicate that a new compressor is needed also?
