In my case, the cat had to be replaced due to melt down of the internal honeycomb caused by driving the car for several miles with a misfire condition. That was clearly the cause. On the other hand, in my country gasoline has a 25% ethanol content, which does not appear to affect the car in any other way, except maybe lower mileage.

What kind of car do you have? Turbo or NA? Maybe you should add this info to your SIG.

From what i have read and from what my muffler guy told me an NA will sound louder than a turbo when you change out the Cat and muffler with something like the Magnaflows or Borla.

I listened to clips off of youtube before I put my Borla muffler on and they were definitely louder sounding than what my car is like now. So after I got it done I was very surprised how quite it was. I had the feeling it was going to sound like a harley but it wasnt the case.

I said I'd post when I got my CAT in the mail from ebay. So here it is. I recieved the catalytic converter in the mail for my 1998 S70 non-turbo automatic. Had it installed today with no problems. Again, I paid $184 including shipping for it. Which is by far the cheapest I could find for a CAT that wasn't a universal. Hope this helps!

Does it look like a OEM quality part? How about the exhaust noise? Same as original one? Thanks

When I had my 3" exhaust made for me, I had them use a magnaflow stainless core race cat and magnaflow muffler at the end. really smooth deep tone. zero raspy sound.

That being said, I do have a perfectly good T5 cat for sale if anyone's interested 8)

I bought the part from MAC auto parts but they actually ordered the part from a manufacturing company called DAVICO MFG. They do special exhaust manufacturing. That said, the quality seemed very good. It looked just like the original and my mechanic was also pleased with it. They also say, and I quote, "All of our Exhausts and Catalytic Convertors have a Limited Lifetime Factory Warranty For as long as you own the vehicle." They were also very easy to deal with.

Addressing your other question. After installing the CAT, our S70 was definitely quieter. However, I believe the pipe coming out of the CAT was broken for quite a while causing it to be louder than normal. We have seen a big difference in power and reduction in sound since installing it. Hope this helps!
