This is clearly a serious concern, and what could have been a fatal malfunction.
The only reason this WASN'T fatal is because were were slowing down when it happened. But I was on the Interstate with the car just the day prior.

I understand FCP Euro's "company policy." But screw that! They sold a product that had had serious problems prior - problems they kept quiet by refusing to post a negative review about the faulty steering rack. Now they have refused to post TWO negative reviews, pointing out this potentially fatal flaw. This isn't cool.

Jeff. In fairness, that might not be accurate. My prior negative review was for an A/C accumulator. Since that one wasn''t posted, I am pretty sure I didn't even bother writing a review for the rack.

You too?

Just how many "less than glowing" reviews has FCP Euro refused to post?

The more I see this thread the better I feel about the $1382.29 I paid for the brand new steering rack from my Volvo dealer. I did have a option for a re-manufactured unit cheaper which had the same warranty, but somehow I just felt better about new. Then a while back I read this thread and knew I made the right decision.

What brand rack did you finely replace the Cardone unit with? Or is the car still broken?

The car is for sale - as is.

I'm still toying with whether or not I'm going to repair it. If I do I'm going to start at the local U-Pull-It Salvage Yards. I might get lucky and find a newly replaced OEM unit. We'll see.

I never thought of a used unit. That sounds like a great idea! Why through away a perfectly good car over a junk part? I really loved my 1998 V70 and kept it 4 years until the extended warranty ran out. In my cars case the transmission was never any good but the rest of the car was brilliant! June

I'm really not throwing away the car. I'm giving a mechanically-inclined person the opportunity to replace the steering rack and have a nice car to drive "on the cheap." But if that person doesn't appear and buy the car, I'll probably replace the rack (though I don't really want to do that again) and sell it as a good-running vehicle. Or I might let one of our adult kids have it.

It has been a good car for me, but I've already bought a replacement. And we don't need three cars, in addition to my truck. :-)

My understanding is the part has been pulled so there might not be a place to review it anymore.

Made sticky until FCP resolves.

I wrote the review long before they "pulled" the part.

My point (partially) is this: I wonder how many other negative reviews FCP Euro has refused to post on their website? All of them? And isn't that flagrant dishonesty? And might it not border on criminally liable? Had a read ANY bad review about this Cardone unit, from FCP Euro, I would never have bought it. But now I won't buy anything from them, ever again, because I know they won't publish honest reviews.

That's a good point. I wasn't able to post a negative review on the Meyle HD upper torque mount bushing because the listing was pulled shortly after I complained about it. I replaced it with a Lemforder under warranty.
Good move, hopefully Jason will see this and be able to help out with this.

I've seen plenty of negative reviews on FCP, and they definitely do sway my decision. Unfortunately sometimes the negative reviews don't get published as fast, and I believe Jason from FCP said in this thread they have to be approved. These websites need to be able to weed out the one-star reviews that say no more than "THIS PART IS JUNK!!! DON'T EVERY BUY IT!!!"
With FCP supposedly getting rid of price matching and a couple prices being raised slightly, maybe this is part of them getting a little full of themselves with their expanded advertising, but they still don't seem like a dishonest company. I've been a loyal FCP customer the past 2 years now, they're one of the few companies I trust. And I don't even trust Amazon!
