As I'm tearing down the '96 GLT manual for all of its useful parts for the 2 '97's we have, I'm thinking about what to do with it's engine.
It's a 2.4 NA.
The other cars are a '97 GLT with the 2.4 LPT and a '97 T5 with the 2.3 HPT. Aside from accessories and other obvious "bolted on" parts what else from this engine would be useful to keep around? Is the cam cover the same between them? (Thought about cleaning one up, paint/coat, etc.). I'm not sure if any of the rotating assy would be of any use or not, as I don't know all of the similarities/differences on the turbo vs non-turbo long blocks from the 96-97 cars.
I've thought about keeping the bare block on hand for a mock-up in my 240.
What's worth saving from a '96 GLT NA Engine?

The best part are the NA cams from the 170hp NA motor. They can be put into the 2.3 liter turbo motor for a bit more power.

I thought that was just the earlier NA cams.

Earlier NA cams (93-94) are preferred, their lobes have the most lift, but the later NA cams are also a slight improvement over the turbo cams. I never deemed the NA cams worth the effort but for sure others have.
Every single bolt-on yes, but from the engine itself I don't keep much of anything from my parts cars. Cam cover is recommended to consider as mated to the block, so you won't likely be swapping that around. I suppose you could pull the cam seals if they were relatively new. An extra thermostat housing can be handy, many people don't think of that as a bolt-on. I haven't needed one but have sent a few out to others. Oh, I have an extra oil pan, learned my lesson after I ruined one pulling an engine. Or if the drain plug threads are damaged in either of your 97s, thanks to previous owners.

Well, those are a given, seeing as that whole lot is going to find it's way into the T5.
Everything else is what I expected. Going to try and grab as much of the stuff as I remember and get the car out of my way before too long.
