S70 T5 1998 Rear calipers

Post by mar601 »

Getting a burning smell from drivers side rear wheel -- took off tire and wheel spins freely but can see pad rubbing slightly.
these are the original 1998 calipers so thought I'd replace them. what to but? can't afford OEM'S but would like your suggestions on
both of the rear calipers.

See that some rust quickly, are there some that are coated? If not, can I simply spray them with some Krylon high heat paint, (although would prefer an easy clear finish).

I see Nastra? Cardone A1? Saw the Cardone ultras but can't find a place to see the price. Don't mind paying up to 150 for set.

Are the 40 buck cardones fine if painted ? -- thanks VERY much.

One caveat on the NAPAs is that the aren't warrantied beyond 2 years. I seldom get more than about 3 years out of a set of rebuilt calipers anyway so. . . if you want a longer warranty FCP is probably the way to go.

I replaced mine with a set I purchased from Autozone in 2013. I ended up replacing the pads, calipers and brakelines.

The calipers are still under warranty as are the pads. I need to replace the rear pads this weekend and since the calipers are under warranty (as are the pads which I believe are lifetime), I am going to replace those with new ones as well.

Not sure what I originally paid for them, but the forty dollar range a side sounds about right. FYI- I am only replacing the calipers with new because I can (it does not cost me anything), otherwise, they appear to be in good working order.

I had a bad experience with Advance Auto rebuilt front calipers recently -- slide pins bent right inside the box. Obviously no quality control.
