ETM Click

Post by michaelunderway » Mon Sep 11, 2017 12:16 pm

When you have the ignition in position 2 and you remove and reinsert the ETM fuse, how loud if the click and other noise coming from the throttle body supposed to be. My 2001 is quite loud but my 2000 is so faint i am not sure if i can hear it? The one that is quiet is the one with issues at the moment. Im trying to diagnose power/ground/ ETM issues. Thanks

The noise or lack of it isn't really going to help you much. Some are loud and some are not. Throttle related codes when connected to a diagnostic reader is the only definitive way to diagnose a throttle issue.

I have no throttle related codes at this moment. I used the Xemodex diagnostic flow charts for ETM and that is why I asked about the click. It is as if i am not getting power to the ETM? I think i may have a #2 fuse to ETM connector power issue or a relay issue.

My 1999 makes a click like a door latch being firmly closed, then a whine like a giant mosquito. Anepholes mosquito.

Thanks for the input. I am going to swap out the relay once it arrives and then i will look at running a better ground to the ETM as well as a new power wire to the ETM harness and maybe an additional Positive B+ Or maybe i will swap out the ETM from my 2001 and see what it does?

I was going to mention that swapping it might be a plan. Just connect to the harness and test.

There are 2 relays potentially responsible for the ETM power supply. If you have a white one next to the blue and grey then that is the ETM power relay. It also powers the air pump if fitted.

The good news is you can't hurt anything trying the swap - these things are all fail safe so they just are paperweights if the software hardware match isn't happy.

I think Mike reports the 8 second whine test is 99.99% definitive to match and work - of course, we had one person report that this wasn't the case.

Of course if they're both not the same aspiration your chances diminish to zero.
