Replacing the fuel pump in a 1998 S70 T-5 and have the new fuel pump with new gasket in place. I see in the Chilton book that the lock ring is to be tightened to 30 ft. lbs. (40 Nm) using tool 999-5484 or equivalent. I have the special tool from Autozone and tried to tighten the lock ring. The problem is, the pump wants to turn with the lock ring as it gets tighter. This will cause an alignment problem with the fuel pump ports and the fuel lines when it's time to connect them.
When I removed the old fuel pump, I was able to remove the lock ring by hand, no tool required. So, I'm wondering if I should just hand tighten this lock ring or reorient the pump so when I get it tight with the tool the fuel pump ports will be lined up for the lines.

The trick is: turn the fuel pump assembly a bit CCW (counter-clockwise), may be about 45 degrees or so.
Mark the proper location (the final location) in relation to the trunk body.
When you tighten the lock ring, just go slow and twits it CW gently until it stops, then snug it a bit and that is all you need.
As long as when you are all done, the fuel pump assembly should sit in the proper orientation.
NOTE: the rubber seal is a bit tricky to install, I posted some info on the trick in a DIY (forgot where it is), you can search for it.
