I guess it's time to break out the smoker!

Anyway, I cleaned all the contacts for the bulbs and sprayed some electrical lube on them the other day, and I finally got to test the turn signals last night with the headlights on. It happens just as often, but the warning light stop flashing more abruptly now. It'll flash once or twice every couple times I activate the signal, then cut off and not come back on until the next time. Since there's now a difference, I'm pretty confident that the bulbs are more of an issue than wiring.
I also noticed that the two contact points on the bottom of the front turn signal bulbs were pressed in from the prongs in the bulb holders. They are domed similar to solder joints (which is probably what they are) and you can clearly see they have flat spots where they make contact with the bulb holder.
I think that could be causing a contact issue that could be triggering the bulb warning light.
Time to change the bulbs and see where that gets me!

I had a similar problem on my 96 855 with the rear LH turn signal. Oddly, I'd get the bulb failure warning only when the brake pedal was engaged. So, sometimes I would repeatedly tap the brake at an intersection to flash the indicator, or pop into neutral and e-brake.. ANYWYA, I checked, adjusted, and cleaned all the contacts in the lamp sockets, replaced the bulbs, and the problem wouldn't go away.

What finally fixed the problem was adjusting the wiring crimp connector into the plug connector that goes into the socket. Somehow the crimp connector got pushed in and was shorting out the circuit. I was initially checking for broken wires when I pulled on the wiring going into the plug and felt the crimp connector slide back. Tried the turn signal with the brake and problem solved!

Hope this helps!

Interesting. I'll have to check the connectors.
