Moronic 4.3 to 4.4 upgrade - CEL codes

Post by jose456891 »

I always keep am eye put at the junk yard for things on my wish list. Yesterday I got lucky and landed a Motronic 4.4 ECU off a 97 N/A 2.4L auto sedan to replace my 4.3 ECU. I eventually want to tune the car.

While everything works flawlessly (even AC), I'm still annoyed by the codes thrown because my car lacks a couple emission related bells and whistles that the donor has.

My original ECU throws no codes, the new one throws the following:

P0410 - Secondary Air Injection System
P0450 - Evaporative Emissions System Pressure Sensor / Switch
P0446 - Evaporative Emission System Vent Contro Circuit
P0412 - Secondary Air Injection Switching Valve A Circuit

These are all electrical, they come on as soon as I turn the car on. I don't have any of these components in my car.

Does anyone here know how to disable the secondary air injection system via software??

How about disabling Evap or just the circuit check?

I'm assume your 96 GLT doesn't have a turbo?

Self tune M4.4 software is available at http://m44.wikia.com/wiki/M44_Wiki though I am not sure if a non-turbo bin file is available for download and edit. You will have to do your own research and find out as no one else I know of tune a non-turbo vehicle.

I don't like the M4.4 turbo manual bin file myself, so I stick with the M4.3 and tune it for my needs.

If you grab an m4.4 ECU from a non-SAS car (no air pump), those codes will not pop up. :D

Otherwise, what tryingbe said. One can easily disable SAS very easily in TunerPro, it is just a few check boxes in the GUI, but you need a bin file to do it and I've never seen one for NA cars only turbo cars. You don't modify the ECU when you tune, you modify the software file and then flash a whole new (modified) tune onto the ECU.

96 and Earlier, all GLT P80 cars were non-turbo. There was no GLE trim. The GLT just had more shiny parts compared to a base model. In MY 97 the GLT started coming with the LPT engine.
