Vibration when accelerating

My 2006 V70 has 133,000+ miles. Something has started vibrating under the hood when shifting through gears and accelerating. No lights, codes, etc. but getting progressively louder. Noise subsides after reaching about 40 mph. Ideas?

I had similar in my '07 S40...ended up being an inner CV joint. At the same time I changed the axle I also changed out the front lower control arms as there was some play in them too. If there is a noticeable grinding sound or hum, it could also be a wheel bearing hub going bad. Is there a sound specifically from one side? If it seems centered and not from a side, I'd check out your CV joints.

Thanks so much! I'll ask my mechanic to do just that. It sounds like a prop plane going down the street! Since I'm always driving, I can't tell if it's coming from the center or not. Sounds to me like it's on the passenger side.

I have an X/C and the passenger axle outer boot was torn. Had vibration on acceleration as well. New axle: vibration gone. Inner joint was probably bad too. It's the long axle so any play would be more noticable.
