1999 v70 xc p0605,p1618 abs & limp home mode

Post by wt343 »

1999 v70 xc Just changed alternator due to overcharging and now have p0605,p1618 and abs light on as well stuck in limp home mode. Could overcharge have cooked abs module, it was rebuilt last year by Rocca. How do I isolate cause. ETM appears fine clicks and beeps and no bad connections. Thanks

Get a code reader and clear the codes first. You can often get spurious codes with bad supply voltages

Iff they come back.....

P0605 is a TCM issue
P1618 is a connector issue to the ABS or bad ABS unit

several threads here on MVS covering these two codes

When the ABS light came on did the traction light come on with it? How many volts was the old alternator putting out? Did you have a CEL and ABS light before changing out the alternator?

Updated status, checked all connection and made sure all modules seated. Cleared codes and p0605 and p1618 came back and still in limp mode.No more abs light and speedometer working properly. Prior to replacing alternator car was overcharging and putting out 18v with new alt/reg it is back to 14 and in normal range.

Probably not your issue, but it's worth a look...
Check all of the connectors along the radiator support and fan shroud. Make sure they are all securely connected. I had an issue for a long time with P1618 and the transmission in fail-safe/limp-home mode and it turned out a large, square connector near the evap purge valve on the radiator support was crushed and some wires were not making full contact. Pressed it together, taped it up, and it's been working perfectly for almost 2 years.
