Angry Factory Trailer Wiring Harnes Question

Does anyone know if you have to have the computer system of the Volvo (XC70) programmed in order for the factory Trailer wiring harness work? I was going to get the Volvo harness but using an aftermarket hitch. I asked the Volvo dealer about the harness and they told me it that the car has to be programmed to work. Not sure if this is true. Only the ones who have used it can say.

They charge $110 just to program plus the cost of the harness which is around $140. Is this just a ploy to make money?

According to FCP the trailer harness is 114 usd and is plug and play

My bad - FCP Euro is a sponsor parts vendor here, along with EEuro and IPD

I just went to their website and looked up part which reports as plug and play. I would call them and ask too - all the parts vendors here know their stuff
