I'm looking for a second car and came across a 2005 Volvo V70 with over 225,000 mi. I have a 1998 V70 my son drives with over 230,000 and has been reliable...I personally drive a Land Cruiser with over 250,000 mi, so high miles don't necessarily scare me.
The car comes with some issue that need addressed: needs a strut mount, blower motor or resistor, and an abs module or pump. I can replace these all on my own.
It has been maintained by a local outfit specializing in Volvo and wont be due for a timing belt for another 14,000 mi. They said the codes pointed to an ABS pump.
If anyone has any experience with this model year or this chassis over 200,000 I'd like to hear from you.

If they really can provide paperwork and it shows very good maintenance, it may still go for another few years.
You'll need to check the PCV and also how the transmission is shifting warmed up.

The fuse for ABS pump in the engine bay (fuse 19 from memory) may be blown.
These ABS pumps can be swapped out and separated from the hydraulic junction block as has been documented here on MVS so not as nasty a job as it first seems.

I wouldn't shy away from a high mileage P2 car if it was properly maintained, which is key here. What you should look for is the paperwork that proves that all the important stuff has been taken care of.
This past spring I found an 04' V70 with 192k on it which I bought for my daughter. The sellers were a retired couple and they had a huge stack of paperwork showing even the oil changes every 3k. It was always maintained by either the Volvo dealership or an indie shop and the car was in amazing condition, always garaged even. I could tell that they really enjoyed this car and the overall condition showed it, how could I pass on a car like that? We put about 9k on it so far with no issues whatsoever. Only the parking brake needs to be rebuilt and it will need a cat sometime in the near future, but I'm ok with that.
I hope this works out for you, let us know what you decide to do.

I bought mine at just below 200000 mi. It's been decently look after with a Volvo dealer service record but perhaps not by an enthusiast who has done more than needed.
It drives perfectly fine with nothing really wrong with it. However some wear parts like shocks and the brakes all around were worn and have now been replaced by me. So check stuff like that since replacing a complete set of calipers, discs and pads for example will quickly stack up to cost a bit. Flushed the transmission and did a few close oil changes as well. Wouldn't have bothered if I didn't intend to keep the car for a while though so it wasn't too bad any of it.
I've driven somewhere around 20000 mi with it now in a year and a half without finding anything worse than the above. They're quite long lasting if you just keep an eye on things and do repairs in time. Plenty of them here in Sweden have done more than 400000 mi of service not least as police cars (quite a few P2:s still in service in rural areas) and taxis.

I'd remove the TB cover and inspect the area. Verify the TB is tracking properly and all the marks line up.
