How to change the fuel filter on a 2004 V70 (video)

Just adding data here:
My 1999 and 2002 both had plastic (FRP?) tanks and external gas filters.
My 2007 has a steel tank and no external filter.
All 3 were non-turbos.
The internal filters seem 9" long in the drawings I've seen and I bet they have a l-o-n-g service life.

The external filters have a 100k service interval and even longer life. People really rarely get 'bad gas' anymore - especially in North America. I opened up my filter in a thread after 100k miles and it was like new inside.

Im going to guess the fuel tanks are HDPE (high density polyethylene) rather than fiberglass - someone could look for the recycle number to put that question to bed for certain.

Ethanol damages fiberglass tanks, a lot of older boats had to change fuel tanks when E10 was introduced.

I forgot to mention earlier:
When ever you squeeze two wrenches set "15º apart" to, say, break a plumbing union or remove one of our fuel filters, it is important that you use two wrenches that fit well or you'll round off the hex hardware.

Cheap Harbor Freight caliber wrenches can be way off and fit loosely.

Flare nut wrenches or vice grips are my weapons of choice. A cheap tool will bite you indeed.

- So Volvo recommends fuel filter change every 105K or so...

- I am the 3rd owner of this 2007 S60 2.5T with 115K miles.

- Search the web or FCPEuro for proper PNs as they change with different chassis.
Volvo just complicates things for nothing.
Also, look and measure (the length of the fuel filter) what you have in the car first.

- Hengst fuel filter is about $14 at FCPEuro.

Tip: do NOT squeeze the plastic tabs too much, just enough to remove the connector.
Do NOT use pliers, just your fingers are good enough.
Squeezing too much can damage the plastic tabs, creating a much bigger headache!

1. The Hengst Fuel Filter is identical to Volvo.
I removed the rust on the Volvo Fuel Filter but could not find the name of the mfg.
Might have been Mahle, Mann or Hengst, I don't know.

Anyway, Hengst is a good name, made in Bulgaria...

2. See autopsy photos at 115K miles.
- Filter element is mounted on a plastic cage.
- Simple design, fuel flows in via the serrated edge of the plastic cap ---> through the
filter element (itself not too bad at 115K miles) ---> to the inner core ---> outlet ---> engine.
- No 1-way valve seen.

- The wall is ~ 1mm thick, good enough to survive 15 yrs/115K with some surface rust but
no leak bc of rust. You can always spray some primer paint before installation if you wish.
