This is why I went with Kobalt instead of Craftsman when buying my most recent tool set. I have faith that there will be a Lowe's near me for the foreseeable future. I've put some attention into the rock chips in the front end of my car. Sanded the rust out, applied a thin coat of primer, a thin coat of white, sanded with 2500 grit, and buffed with Meguiar's M105. I have no idea what I'm doing, so I applied too much primer; when I sand the repairs flat with the surrounding paint, I wear through the white paint and expose gray primer, which sits at the same height as the factory clear coat. You can see that in the dark spots around the grille (though one or two of those are bug splatters).
While I had the grille out, I sanded it with 400 grit to smooth it out and take out the reflectivity. I was going for a satin silver look, but I didn't really get a uniform finish around the rim. I'll try a coarser grit later, but for now I'm letting the touch-up paint harden and taking care of a few things on my Mercedes.
