HI all, my starter bit the dust weeks ago so I removed it, had it rebuilt by a reputable local shop and reinstalled. Now the starter cranks real good and strong but the engine is not firing up after cranking over and over. I double-checked the starter connection and it's the same as before removing it i.e. green wire goes to the spade terminal, 2 red wires and 1 cooling fan wire all goes to the (+) post on the outboard side. Battery is full charged. All connectors to throttle body, IAC, camshaft sensor, BCS are hooked up. There is fuel pressure as well which I tested using the schrader valve at the end of the fuel rail.

Puzzled what could suddenly changes just by replacing the starter.

Thanks for any help on this.

Happen to check the fuel injection fuse?

Are you getting spark?

Does the exhaust smell of gas?

Did you get some wires pinched when you reinstalled the starter?

Yes, the exhaust smells a bit of gas. How do I test if I'm getting spark?

I rechecked the 4 wires to the starter and they're OK not pinched.

How do I test if I'm getting spark.

Pull the coil wire from the distributor cap lay it down near a metal part of the engine, let go .. do not hold in hand, have somebody crank engine. If it is firing your see the spark.

Does the engine maybe spin too fast/easily, like the cylinders aren't making compression? You'd be able to hear the difference too. I'm wondering if the engine has Lawn Mower Syndrome.

It was the cam sensor. For some strange reason, removing it and reinstalling it did the trick. I had to "center" the sensor between the slack of the 2 torx bolts.
