ECC controller unit for V/S/C70's?

Post by scot850 » Wed Oct 11, 2017 7:49 pm

I am sure I have read several times that the ECC unit changed in the life of the V/S/C70 at some point during their lives. Abscate our friend I think was one of those who may have said that.

What confuses me is when I check on Vida the same part numbers are listed for 97-00 V/S 70, 98-00 V70XC and 98-05 C70. The part number changes up 5 times (!!) during that period but all supersede the previous one. 9171799 -> 9459769 -> 9171635 -> 9171594 -> 9134783. Now this is for the Celsius versions we have 'up North', so not sure about the position on the Farenheit which has only 4 part # changes in the same time-frame.

Can someone confirm or deny this?

Thanks,

Neil.

Well, that is a source of which to be skeptical...

Could it be that the hardware is totally compatible and the software is the thing to match to model year?

I know lots of folks have reported plug and play from a PnP on the ECC control unit.

850 had an ECC change where the auto mode fan turn on command went from an engine management ground signal to run fan to an alternator charge light wire voltage signal to run fan. ECC module had some changes to incorporate convertible top down mode. I am unsure of the other reasons for P/N changes but a module with convertible mode could be used on any as the wire from conv top module is not in place on the others. early modules are more likely to give recalibration issues if moved from one car to another as they will set a dtc that stops entering calibration mode if the old stored damper ranges are very different from the ranges on the new car it is fitted to.

Thanks jimmy57 and abscate for the inputs. I know I ended up with 2 ECC units from S/V70's due to a problem with a 98 V70XC we had that made a strange noise in the dash area. Swapping the units over made no difference. Eventually tracked the problem down to a faulty servo motor and replaced it just prior to selling the car. I know the units worked then, but want to test them in the V70 'project' (the reason the car was bought was to test the far too many heating system parts I have). I don't like selling parts on to others without some confidence they work. Really need to remove some of the 'overabundance' of parts in the 'stash'!

Let the testing begin!

Neil.
