Tire Size Spec Topic is solved

I recently replaced my stock 205/55/16 tires on Eurus wheels (ET49, and they rubbed a little bit because I removed the steering bump stop on the lower control arms) with 225/45/17 Sumitomo HTR A/S P02 on 17X7.5 Sport Edition wheels (ET42 and no rubbing at all!). Seems like a good combo and rides great. Plus the entire setup was fairly cheap, under $1k shipped to my door. They're a little bland looking perhaps, but I didn't want anything flashy.

Swapped out my snows the other day and I realized this-at 15k per year with snows I’m only putting on 7 k per year per set, which means they are rolling 10 years.

Now I’m running into the hard sell of “ tires only last 5 years” crap the tire industry invented to sell more round rubber donuts. Consumer reports is singing this swan song calling for regs, without any data on tire failures of course, other than the anecdotal family that was killed by a 16 year old tire failure while Dad was lighting his crack pipe on the freeway.

I have one indie who diligently reports tire date codes on their service receipts. The 99 is running 3 year old fronts and 8 year old rears, both Coopers it spends 80 percent of her time at 65 mph
