When I reinstall engine mounts, I typically follow the procedures in the Haynes or AlldataDIY service manuals, which just say to tighten the mounting bolts down to factory spec before starting the engine.
However, I have read a couple of HOWTOs online which also say to start the engine and put the car in gear before fully tightening the mounts, because supposedly it puts the engine and transmission in the optimal position in relation to the mounts, and reduces the amount of vibration through the mounts. Obviously this is done with wheel chocks, E-brake set, and a trusted assistant in the driver's seat, holding down the brake pedal.
Wondering if anyone here uses this procedure, or if you just tighten down the bolts with the car off?

On my clutch job I just followed VIDA and tightened statically.
Mounts on these cars are heavy and well made.

The only one you would do that for is the upper torque mount but I have found that it really doesn't matter.
Just torque them up EVENLY and it's fine.
