Possible V70R Purchase- Transmission problem?

Avoid the 01-04 XC70's. 05-07 is the sweet spot for that P2 verison. 04 is a cross over year. Main issues are lack of AWD system (Haldex) servicing (oil and filter), oil changes in the angle gear and diff.

The Haldex system can have issues with the circuit board that is in it under the car as water can get into it. Xemodex does do a re-build kit which includes the oil pump and filter as well.

Other issues are the Speedo cluster can give issues as on all P2 and S80's of that era.

Suspension, watch for broken springs and worn out spring seats and front control arm bushes. Avoid cars with 4-C suspension (a form of adjustable stiffness shocks) as the shocks are stupid expensive.

Other than that they are no worse than other Volvos and I have seen many with high mileages. Spoke to a guy last week with over 450,000km on his and it ran great. Seen them with higher than that to. So servicing is the thing to watch for.

Stupid issue is Volvo fitted the PCV pipe from the catch tank to the cylinder head with a plastic corrugated pipe rather than rubber. IT tens to split but the replacement is back to rubber and can be replaced without removing the intake manifold.
