2000 S70 GLT only starts after the battery has been disconnected

2000 S70 GLT only starts after the battery has been disconnected

Not sure if I posted this before but I met a lady in the Dallas area that is having a no start condition. The car is not getting spark unless the battery is disconnected and reconnected. Again, it's a 2000 S70 GLT.

I have replaced the following items with used parts:
- Temp sensor
- MAF
- Cam sensor
- New spark plugs

Experienced suggestions welcomed.

Sorry but need to clarify Robert. The engine is turning over but not starting? If that is the case it sounds like an immobiliser issue. Does it not cut the spark to prevent starting. Actually come to think of it the starter does not work on the 99-00's, so not sure now. Check the condition of the antenna ring. Also just to eliminate it, does she have a second key? How is the electrical portion of the switch?

Clearly it would appear that removing the battery and reconnecting is causing some for of electrical re-set. Are you getting any communications errors with Vida/Dice?

No CEL and I do not have VIDA/DICE. I believe the ignition switch and antenna ring has been replaced with a used one. She really can't afford to start throwing new parts at it, that gets expensive fast. Has probably already put about $800 into it with little success.

Monitor the 12VDC from the fuse and relay to the coils. If that is present on key on, and holds voltage, the next stop is the ECU - which probably means an IMMOB issue

Having the same problem with my 2000 v70xc. Car recently sat for 7 weeks with the battery disconnected, when I reconnected the fully charged battery it wouldn't start (crank only, good fuel pressure). I tried disconnecting and reconnecting the negative post and it started - I thought 'great, problem solved', but after shutting it off it would crank but not fire. The only way it will start is after disconnecting/reconnecting the battery (negative cable only) and only one time. On one restart I took it for a drive and everything worked fine, but it still wouldn't restart after shutting it off. Antenna ring doesn't 'seem' to be the problem as I played with the connection a bit with no result. Car does crank with a disconnected antenna ring, by the way. Any ideas?

Have you reset the immobiliser using the key in the drivers door lock after re-connecting the battery?

Is that where you reconnect the battery,then lock/unlock the driver's door 5 times using the key before starting it? I've tried that and gotten the usual first start but no restart. Unless I'm not doing it right?

You. Will need VIDA to diagnose the immobilizer fault. It's resetting when you disconnect the battery but that is not going to fix itself.

I've noticed when I start my 1999 ( same early CANBUS) with a bad chipped key it cranks and fires once, then doesn't fire again until it is reset with either the right key or a battery disconnect

I used to get an intermittent no start on my 2000 V70 (Denso ECM) especially after reading it with an ELM327 OR with Vida.

I didn't look into it any further because it would always start, sometimes on the 4th or 5th attempt.

Robert it really does look like a faulty ECM which has the immobiliser IC embedded on the board. Looks like that IC is not resetting properly but without a Vida/Dice scan I'm only speculating.

Unfortunately I can't recommend a way out of this without Vida/Dice, another ECM and an internet connection to Doublebug.
