1998 xc trans died. 2000xc work?

Will a 2000 xc trans work in my 98 XC

My guess is, as they are the same aw42
The electronic connectors are not compatible
Are the internals?

Based on volvo parts warehouse, rock auto etc
The internals are the same
car-part says they are different. Though I suspect that is only because of the external electrical connectors and the different pcm/tcm

James ..I don't think you can get a set of electronics that will work this, the engine management is completely different from 1998 to 2000
