Well, I overreacted to the stall outs and the stumbling sound of the engine, I'll cop to it. I was able to run the wagon by disconnecting the MAF sensor and drove it to the shop. One air boot and one barometric pressure sensor later and she's back on the road. Thanks for the advice.

These are reliable cars if you get in front of the stuff that ages and breaks, like rubber hoses, vacuum hoses, Pcv.

If drive them like appliances, they will frustrate you with downtime

I'm sure you're right, I just don't have the space to workshop any car, let alone one this old. I do what I can.

yes like I said a few years ago in this thread they can frustrate you, particularly if you don't have somewhere to work on them or have the interest or experience to work on them. Same with any old vehicle.

Glad things are working well again. Frustration is my 2000 'R' PITA. Have not been able to drive it due to a misfire and not being able to get into the garage due to a wheels off project car. Finally got the wheels back on the project so took the 'R' out for a run to get the problem that appeared when warm to re-occur so I could bring it into the garage for diagnostics. Naturally basic tester showed no faults registered prior to run, and car ran perfectly, even the groaning suspension was quiet! Frustrating, yes! Project back in the garage and front wheels off!

It's time to pass this girl on to her next owner. I've listed it here if anyone has interest: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... 0124160195

I suggest you put some black vinyl cream, cooking oil or anything on these faded bumpers and door trims. Will take you 10 min but will improve the looks of your car greatly!

Good advice. I had some Mother's Back To Black and gave that a shot after reading this, and the trim improved somewhat.

The bad part is now the alternator has died. I've already lined up my next car, I'm not repairing this one, so I guess now I'm just selling for parts.

If we can find a cheap used alternator it will be easier to sell, as a parts car you are talking $200 bucks or so, decent runner $1200 on up

Alternator removal (unbolting) takes about 10 minutes with the right tools. Alternator Tetris takes about another 20 minutes to get it out of the tight spot and get the cables disconnected and new one into position and connected. About an hour to do the alternator, maybe less total since the car isn't hot. Use the force =)
