1999 S70 Remote fob programming 9166200

Post by speedyt5 »

Is this able to be done without a trip to the dealership? My fob has been working intermittently and its not the battery, I feel maybe its the battery connection but figured I wouldn't mind buying a new fob and programming it if this is something that is able to be done with https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/volvo- ... soft-volii. As I don't have a windows PC for Vida Dice. Even if I did have a windows PC for Vida and Dice would I be able to program the car to the remote myself? Anyone done this?

The only way your 99 can be set up with a paired remote is by VIDA plus the right software downloaded to the computer running it. There is no escaping the dealer.

+1 erikv11, dealer has to do it. i purchased a fob this past summer and had it programmed (PO misplaced fob), dealer rep who worked the counter did it for free, because he didn't have to get one of the techs involved. if you don't luck out like i did though, expect to pay between 20 and 100 to have it programmed.

+1 as above
When/if you go in to have them do it, bring all the keys and fobs in with you for that car. Depending on what all is going on, they may choose to delete them all and re-add them.

99- is a much different system than your ‘98.
Not only does it have to be a dealer trip, you
have to start with a brand new 9166200 fob
with the ident tags. Unlike the one year of
‘98, a used fob just won’t work.

You will find those who party like its 1999 have a Princely relationship with VIDA at a dealer or an indie with full subscription for programming keys and fobs.

Anything can be done, but there are no recorded successes here of anyone doing a DIY key on a 1999-on

Robert, what is he charging for new key remote and programming? Does the car needs to be present?
