Coolant light on......AGAIN!

Post by speedyt5 »

99 S70 T5. The coolant light went on probably about 6 months ago, I thought it was the sensor so I changed that out, was still on so figured it was the float in the expansion tank bottle. Had that changed out at the mechanics and it went off..... 6 months later its on again! Not low on coolant obviously or I wouldn't be upset, so sensor? bottle? If I get another bottle can I do this swap without making a mess, anything I should know? Should try first? Frustrating going from no lights on on the dash to the check engine, srs, and coolant! Lighting up like a Christmas tree all within a week. Thanks guys.

Get a voltmeter and we can troubleshoot through the sensor and checking it

Do you know if the parts were Volvo OE parts or aftermarket? The connector for the level sensor is a little fragile and can easily be damaged if you don't take care.

What coolant brand was used. Not sure it is an issue, but may be.

As abscate is the 'electrical' guy, I'll let him take you through the check process.

Just one other question (as I have done this when not taking enough attention) you are sure it is the coolant light and not the low level windshield washer fluid light?!

Good Luck!

Neil.

Thanks guys, I can get a voltmeter tomorrow, I hear the floats in the bottles are pretty troublesome, I am not sure whether it was OE or not, I can check tomorrow though.

If ANY of your parts are from URO.....trash them. I made the mistake of going cheap and picked up a URO coolant tank and it started to leak in less than 6 months.

OK, my low coolant lamp lights up a few minutes after running the car (just about when the temp stabilizes) then turns off a couple minutes later. The reservoir is full. Happens every day. I thought it was the sensor, so I replaced it but it does the same thing. I'm now stumped. The only thing else I know to replace is the reservoir itself. Any ideas?
