XC60 Warranty Bonus...It had to be red

I set out recently to replace my wife's POS 2001 V70 2.4T. We've had it 8+ years and she's always hated it, (road) noisy, clear coat peeling, but mostly because it was silver and not red. But it ran well except for the ETM issues, including a XeModeX replacement that also eventually failed which is why I started fixing my own Volvos and hanging out here.

Now we can finally afford to replace it and she wanted to sit up higher in the sea of SUVs, so we looked at the red XC90s, but really didn't need the space or want the extra width or length and settled on a red XC60.

30 days of Craigslist, CarMax, CarGurus, AutoTrader, Cars.com, TrueCar, CarFax and the local Volvo dealers (5 in CO) pre-owned sites and I had it narrowed to 2 red cars in our price range, both from dealers. One a red 2014 T6 with 60K+ 15 miles away and a red 2015 T5 Drive E Premier with 44K which meant it had 6K and 5 months left of factory warranty, but was 200 miles away. About the same price and comparable value. I was leaning toward the 2015, the warranty however short beat none and the fuel economy of the 4 cyl was attractive, but the logistics of the 400 mile drive to inspect and return to pick up got the best of me.

We purchased the local car today for $24.2K. Other than a few nicks and smudges it is in beautiful shape and I doubt the 4 cyl could match the T6 power and acceleration. I still had a bit of buyers remorse when we returned home and found with the owners manual in the glove box a form indicating the first owner had the car certified pre-owned (CPO) before selling 2 years previous. This was not indicated on the dealers ad or in the CarFax.

A quick call to Volvo Owner Support (1-800-458-1552) confirmed the warranty was extended to 7 years/100,000 mi leaving almost 4 years or 40K mi of warranty! I still can't believe our luck, but the car had to be red.

P.S- Check the warranty with Owner Support if you purchase a newer used Volvo.

Nicely done. SWMBO loves the XC60 in our house too, for the next car, but she hates car payments
